I received the 1 TB model yesterday. Plugged her in, checked her out, and did a backup of my Sony Vaio laptop's drive.
Simple and intuitive. A very quiet unit.
What amazed me is that the unit is sealed. Yet, after a complete backup, it was no more than slightly warm.
Time will tell how reliable it is....but for now, I'm totally satisfied with my WD.
Great storage device

This is the second Western Digital brand external storage device I have owned. This device will work well with my desktop computer. It is not a compact design to be easily portable. The size is great to meet my needs for backup and file storage. Runs cool. Was easy to install using "plug and play" with my Windows Vista operating system, no additional software was required for operation.

I've never noticed how good this drive is until I started using the drives from the other vendors. Then it became obvious to me that this disk is:
1. Absolutely quite
2. Not getting hot or warm
3. It's faster than all 2TB USB2.0 drives I've tried.
4. It does have a usable indicator but it doesn't lit up your room at night with too much light
5. Works perfectly under Linux (not every vendor's drives do apparently).
6. The price is really good.
Bottom line is this is an ideal disk. You buy it, plug it in and forget about it.

this drive is serving me well. I have not had any problem with it. I do use it with software from Norton--ghost, or with software from acronis--true image. both programs work well, I wouldn't use them both together for a good back up. but use one or the other program, and the WD HD works well.
be advised that WD, like a lot of co.s makes a HD for Mac. this drive is not recomended for PCs. the correct driver for the mac drive is not availible so don't get the for mac, if you are running a PC. the edition in this review is OK for PCs and I have had good luck with it so far.

This is my fourth WD drive. I purchased this one to hang on my home theater system with all of my photos, videos and music. Like all the others, I took it out of the box, wired it up, and pluged it in (all cables included!!). It worked flawlessly, didn't even need to read the instructions.
