Don't buy it

| I too read all the reviews and asked friends, etc. I also got tired of buying a new vacuum every other year. I too valued quality, and was willing to pay more if needed to get it. But, this vacuum needs more than $100 PER YEAR to keep it in bags and filters! Look at some of the package deals - $130+ for 16 bags and one HEPA filter which they say is a year's supply. I have a very clean house, no dirt/spilled breakfast cereal, etc. Mostly dust, no pets. Dust is what this vacuum does worst. The bags and filters clog with small amount of dust, bathroom powder, etc. Sure it's quiet, but I don't vacuum around sleeping babies (Just the two of us old people). The exhaust blows out the top and into your face when you bend over to turn it on or off. An on/off switch on the handle (like my old Kenmore) would be much easier to use. I'm on my second HEPA filter in 6 months. and I need a new bag every month. The $$$ add up, and you need to take that into account with the overall price. The bag volume is too small. Save your money, or spend it more wisely on something else. I wish I read this review 6 months age and saved $850 and the $130 extra dollars I'm spending at Amazon today for the extra bags and filters I need. Good luck, and keep your credit card handy if you buy this vacuum. |
Would buy it again

I bought my Miele about six months ago, after much agonizing over the steep price tag. So far, I'd say it was well worth it. This vacuum has great suction, yet somehow manages to be relatively compact and light-weight. The two brush attachments really do have different functions/uses, and although it's a bit of a pain to change them when going from carpet to hard wood floors and vice versa, they each do a great job. The other on-board attachments are on the small side, but adequate.
The bags are expensive, but each one goes a long way. I love how quiet this vacuum is, and how there's no vacuum-y odor in the house after I use it. I'm really happy with it and would buy it again. |

| I love this thing! I spent months shopping for a vacuum and reading reviews and this won even factoring in the price and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I've use an Oreck, I've used a Dyson, I've used Hoovers and in comparison this is heaven. The power head on the carpet attachment can be turned on and off independently which has kept me from killing things I run over many times. Even on the highest suction setting it only makes about half the noise of my old vacuum, it is so quiet I have no worries about disturbing my neighbors (I'm in a large apartment building). And possibly my favorite thing is that there are no longer things being thrown back at my feet, like the gravel they sand the roads with. I've had it for about 3 months and I've only gone through one bag so far even though I vacuum pretty often. Out of random curiosity I weighed it and the bag weighed 7.5 pounds, so they hold a lot and are not going to break. |
You'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands....

It's a lot of money for a vac - I know. It's worth it. I was tired of paying $250-400 every 18 months for a bagless upright that would break or spew dust everywhere (even ones with supposed HEPA filters did that - the filter doesn't do much good if the dust can get out other ways).
I have medium pile carpet and tile. I have upholstered furniture. The Callisto does it all. I have a long-haired cat, and the Callisto gets all the fur she sheds. I have a baby, and the Callisto gets all the Cheerios she drops. And it's quiet enough that it doesn't scare the cat or wake the baby. I can put my face directly in the exhaust and feel no discomfort - no dust is blowing into my eyes. I bought this from a local dealer. It came with a 7 year warranty on the motor and 1 year on the body and attachments. |

I own a dog day care and bed & breakfast. With the amount of dogs (we're averaging about 20 a day) that are in and out every day, and the large amount of hard surfaces (laminate flooring & sealed concrete floors) and soft surfaces, we needed a vacuum that would do the job with one pass and be easy to use. We are now 1 year into using this machine. We use it on a daily basis. It's light so it makes it quick to DAILY vacuum 2000 sq. feet of 2 levels including the numerous couches, antique oriental rugs, FLOR tiles, dog beds, and the interior of our LR3 clean of dog fur and whatever the runts have tracked in from their off-leash outings at the local parks. I vacuum up so much stuff that I have to put in a new bag every week. This machine just chugs sucking up whatever is in its path and contains it. Light enough to make stair work not a big deal. The suction adjustment is great for fabrics to prevent the fabric (like duvet covers, since we have dogs who like hanging out on beds) from being sucked rather than the fur. Our maid who uses this vacuum to clean our 1000 sq. ft. personal living space raves about how well this works. Trust me, she's used to using many vacuums. After using the Miele, she recommends it to her clients looking for a new vacuum. Yes, it's expensive. But it's not a disposable vacuum which I've had many of. This is an appliance. The only vacuum that we still have and has lasted is a Kirby, but it's just so heavy to use as much as we use the Miele. The product is incredibly well thought out and engineered down to the hinged mechanism on the cloth vacuum bags to prevent its contents from leaking out. Because it was so expensive, I looked for 0% financing which we found at Witbeck Vacuums. If you're on a the fence on this, you won't regret this purchase.
I did compare this to the dog & cat model, but decided on this one because of HEPA. In addition to this, I got the car clean kit which was a wise purchase as it has the tools to thoroughly clean the automobile thoroughly free of fur and sand. |
